2019 TN ASTA Teacher of the Year: Mandy Funderburk

Mandy Funderburk is starting her 7th year of teaching orchestra in Metro Nashville Public Schools.  She is the full time director at Bellevue Middle School and teaches an additional class at Hillwood High School.  She received her B.S. in Music Education from Towson University and M.A. in Music Education from MTSU with double bass as her primary instrument.

Mandy was the recipient of the 2016 CMA Music Teacher of Excellence award and 2016 MNPS Blue Ribbon Teacher award.  She was most recently chosen as 2019 Bellevue Middle School Teacher of the Year, and selected as a finalist for the 2019 MNPS District Middle School Teacher of the Year.  Mandy is a member of the MTSBOA, TMEA, NAfME, and is the Middle TN Representative for the TN chapter of the American String Teachers Association.

Mandy lives in the Germantown neighborhood of Nashville with her husband and two Boston Terriers.  She leads a monthly Germantown Neighborhood Cleanup group and enjoys exploring the food scene in Nashville and beyond in her spare time.
